In his two years serving as chairman, he oversaw significant changes at the firm, including the combination with China’s King & Wood last year.
The firm’s former Australia M&A head Craig Semple recently departed KWM for Gilbert + Tobin’s Melbourne office.
There has been significant upheaval at the firm recently, with KWM’s Australia managing partner Tony O’Malley departing, to be replaced by Sue Kench, the former head of the firm’s real estate, construction, environment and infrastructure group.
Speaking about Bednall’s appointment, Kench said: “I am delighted Tim has accepted this position. He is an outstanding lawyer with a strong reputation in both the legal and corporate arenas. He is also a proven leader and will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the role.
“Tim was heavily involved with steering the combination with King & Wood last year and, as a result, has developed strong relationships with the firm’s China practice, which will help to drive further integration across the combined network,” added Kench.
As part of the reshuffle, managing partner Scott Gardiner will add the real estate, construction, environment & infrastructure sector to his existing responsibilities of overseeing the energy, resources & projects sector and the China practice.
