Sonia Goumenis (pictured) will rejoin the firm to take on the role of partner in its national securitisation practice, while David Ephraums will join the firm’s superannuation team as a partner.

Goumenis began her career at Clutz as a graduate in 2001, and became a partner at the firm in January 2008.

She returns to the firm from Allen & Overy, where she has been a partner for approximately the last three years.

Goumenis has more than 12 years’ experience in securitisation transactions, acting for a range of participants, including sponsors, arrangers, facility providers, investors and trustees in both domestic and cross-border deals. She has acted for Australian issuers in establishing their global covered bond programs. Her experience also extends to debt capital markets issues, derivatives, structured products and portfolio acquisitions.

Clutz’s national securitisation practice head Andrew Jinks said Goumenis’ addition to the team met a strategic client need and growing demand for specialist services in the securitisation area.

“Sonia has built a strong reputation in the market and her appointment will add significantly to our ability to service our clients’ needs in this area,” said Jinks.

Ephraums began his legal career with Freehill Hollingdale & Page (now Herbert Smith Freehills) and has more than 25 years’ experience in the financial services sector.

He moved in-house in 1994 and has held senior in-house legal roles with BT Financial Group, UBS Global Asset Management and AMP.

His most recent role was as executive legal counsel (integration) at AMP, overseeing the AMP / AxA integration.

Ephraums’ legal and industry experience spans financial services, funds management, superannuation, life insurance, portfolio services, financial advice and distribution, and retail banking, including advice on governance and compliance issues.

Clutz’s department head of its banking & financial services practice, Steve O’Reilly, said clients would benefit from Ephraums’ unique industry background and experience.

“David offers our clients a unique combination of deep legal and industry knowledge, relationships and experience, with the ability to help them achieve successful commercial outcomes while at the same time meeting their regulatory obligations.”
