Fifty-eight general members have been reappointed to the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART), each to serve a further three-year term.

In a statement, the Albanese government noted that all of the members were first appointed in 2023 to help address some of the “oldest and most complex migration and protection” cases before the tribunal.

Attorney-General Michelle Rowland said that the reappointments would ensure the tribunal retained experienced members with specialised knowledge of Australia’s migration and protection systems, providing continuity and stability in its decision-making.

“The creation of the Administrative Review Tribunal was one of the most significant reforms to Australia’s system of administrative review in decades,” Rowland said.

“These reappointments support the Tribunal to retain members with significant knowledge and experience of migration and protection systems, and will ensure cases continue to be heard in a timely and effective manner.

“The government congratulates all members for their reappointments, and thanks them for their continued service to the Australian public.”

The Albanese government said that all 58 reappointments were made per section 208 of the Administrative Review Tribunal Act 2024 and assessed as suitable under the original appointment guidelines of the former Administrative Appeals Tribunal, with the process closely aligned to the new legislative framework.

Among those reappointed are Kylie Allen, John Paul Guemy, Belinda Mericourt, Adrienne Anderson, Gregory Hanson, Rebecca Mikhail, Mia Bailey, Khanh Hoang, Sydelle Muling, Joanne Bakas, James Horsley, Siran Nyabally, Michael Brereton, Noelle Hossen, Damien Power, Bryn Butler, Denny Hughes, Radhika Prasad, Jason Cabarrus, Sarah Irvine, Victoria Price, Clyde Cosentino, Rachelle Johnston, Lara Proske, Alicia Devitt-Bills, Samira Kamandi, Fraser Robertson, Suseela Durvasula, Hee-Jung Kim, Inge Sheck, Suhad Dutra, Matthew King, Gabrielle Simm, Jessica Edis, John Kotsifas, Michael Simmons, Xanthe Emery, Joshua Le Vay, Patricia Tyson, Jennifer Ermert, Gary Ledson, Andrew Verduci, Garry Fitzgerald, Lisa Lo Piccolo, Catherine Wall, Maria Gagliardi, Ben Lumsdaine, Gregory Weeks, Amanda Goodier, Sophie Manera, Paul White, Donald Gordon, Jessica McLeod, Carolyn Wilson, Benjamin Goulding, Stefanie Memmott, Sue Zelinka, and Sophia Ziebell-Barnes.

This news follows the Attorney-General’s appointment of 11 general members to the ART earlier in January.
