Three new judges have been appointed to the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, strengthening the court’s benches across Divisions 1 and 2.
The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA) is set to strengthen its judicial ranks with the appointment of three new judges.
The newly appointed judges are Judge Steven Middleton, Judge Sandra Taglieri and Tracy Flintoff.
Judge Middleton will join the Brisbane Registry of Division 1, Judge Taglieri will take up a position in the Hobart Registry of Division 1, and Flintoff will join the Brisbane Registry of Division 2.
The three judges will formally commence their new roles on 10 August 2026.
Attorney-General Michelle Rowland congratulated the three appointees, highlighting that the appointments followed a merit-based process designed to ensure Australia’s judiciary continues to meet the high standards expected by the community.
“I congratulate Judge Steven Middleton, Judge Sandra Taglieri and Ms Tracy Flintoff on their appointments and thank them for their willingness to serve the Australian community,” A-G Rowland said.
“The government has made these appointments following merit-based processes to ensure that judicial appointments meet the high standards Australians expect.”
With nearly a decade of experience on the Federal Circuit and Family Court bench, Judge Middleton will transition to Division 1 after serving as a Division 2 judge in Brisbane since 2015.
He was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW and the High Court of Australia in 1996.
Judge Taglieri brings extensive legal and judicial experience to her new role, having served as a judge of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2) in Hobart since 2021.
She was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Tasmania and the High Court of Australia in 1989.
Flintoff has served as a senior judicial registrar of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia since 2021, following her admission as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of NSW in 2001.
