Richard Scruby SC has been appointed to the Supreme Court of NSW by Attorney-General Michael Daley.
Richard Scruby SC, who has been a member of the NSW Bar since 2002, has been appointed to serve on the bench of the Supreme Court of NSW.
He has, the state’s Attorney-General’s Department outlined in a statement, a broad practice across corporations, commercial, equity, insolvency and taxation matters and served as an associate to Justice Ian Callinan in the High Court of Australia in 1999.
Scruby joined Tenth Floor Wentworth Selborne Chambers in 2004 and was appointed senior counsel in 2017. Moreover, he has served as a member of the NSW Bar Association’s professional conduct and diversity and equity committees.
The news follows the appointment of fellow silks Katherine Richardson SC to the Supreme Court in May and Helen Roberts SC in March.
Speaking about the appointment, NSW Attorney-General Michael Daley said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Richard Scruby SC to the Supreme Court of NSW, which will enhance the administration of justice and strengthen the bench’s ability to serve the community.
“Mr Scruby comes to the bench with 24 years’ experience at the NSW Bar. He is recognised as a leading litigation barrister and has significant experience across a broad range of areas, including significant commercial and corporate matters.”
Scruby will be sworn into the equity division of the Supreme Court next week, on 3 September.
