NRF to lose long-serving partner

Meridian Lawyers has poached an insurance specialist who has been at Norton Rose Fulbright for 16 years.

Ashley Jones (pictured) will be joining Meridian as a principal in the firm’s Brisbane office. He is currently a partner in NRF’s financial services practice, but has specialised in insurance litigation for the past 10 years.

His clients include insurers, such as medical indemnity providers, and ‘self-insurers’, such as transport companies, mining companies, airport corporations and electricity suppliers.

Meridian launched its Brisbane office in September by merging with insurance boutique CLS Lawyers. Jones will be the sixth insurance partner to join the Brisbane office and the 16th across the firm’s four offices.

The incorporated legal practice recruited former DLA Piper partner Robert Crittenden to the firm’s Sydney insurance team in June.

Meridian also has offices in Melbourne and Newcastle.

The firm’s managing principal, Paul Baker, told Lawyers Weekly that while the firm had grown considerably in recent months, hiring decisions had been “cautious and considered”.

Meanwhile, NRF recently hired a banking and finance partner in Brisbane.

NRF also announced this week that its global head of energy would be relocating from London to Sydney in a bid to grow the firm’s energy practice in the Asia Pacific.
