Gilbert + Tobin has expanded its practice with Daniel Moloney (pictured) as a new partner in its disputes and investigations team in Melbourne.
Former partner at Jones Day, Daniel Moloney is a specialist in a variety of areas, including commercial and corporate disputes, insolvency, enforcement actions and investigations.
Moloney has acted for global corporations in Australian class action defences, also known as bet-the-company litigation – risky disputes that can threaten a company’s survival.
G+T’s firm’s co-founder and chairman, Danny Gilbert, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Daniel to the partnership. Daniel is a respected litigator with a proven track record.”
On his appointment, Moloney said: “G+T is trusted with many of Australia’s most significant commercial disputes. I’m excited to be joining a team which consistently delivers exceptional outcomes.”
Its latest addition followed other moves made to the BigLaw firm in 2025. Lawyers Weekly reported on two Dentons partners poached by the firm earlier this year, Stanley Mok, and Rachel Walker.
The firm said: “Daniel is a seasoned litigation lawyer with extensive experience advising corporates, financial institutions and boards in high-profile and complex commercial disputes, class actions, investigations and regulatory enforcement matters.
“He has acted on many of the most significant commercial disputes and class actions in Australia, across financial services, funds, technology, and energy and resources.”
The firm also appointed three new partners and 10 new special counsel in June. The additions to the partnership took G+T’s partner tally up to 116.
“Daniel also regularly advises clients on significant investigations and contentious regulatory matters involving Australian and foreign authorities,” said the firm.
His experience spanned several significant cases, which included successfully defending a former chairman in disqualification proceedings and acting for receivers in a claim against directors and officers.
The firm said: “Daniel’s appointment builds on the strength and reputation of G+T’s market-leading disputes and investigations team, known for its ability to handle Australia’s most complex and high-profile litigation matters.”
