The mid-tier firm has appointed a former KPMG director to its commercial services team.
A former director of risk assurance at KPMG Australia, Alexander Ong (pictured), has joined the mid-tier firm’s commercial services team. Under the leadership of Malcolm Campbell, he will work alongside special counsel John Bennett and consultant Peter English.
Ong has practised for over 20 years across corporate law, governance, risk, and compliance, focusing on the financial and energy sectors.
He commenced at the firm on 8 April 2026.
With extensive experience advising on corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters, Ong also has expertise in governance, risk, and compliance.
Before joining Coleman Greig, Ong was general counsel and head of risk and compliance at renewable energy provider BJEI Australia, after his time as interim general counsel at ING Australia and director of risk assurance for over two years at KPMG Australia.
Throughout his career, Ong worked closely with boards and executive teams to design and implement fit-for-purpose frameworks, respond to regulatory change, and navigate conduct and compliance issues for a range of industries.
Ong holds a bachelor of commerce (accounting and finance) and a bachelor of laws (honours) from the University of Sydney and attained a master of business administration from the University of Melbourne.
The firm commended Ong for his clear, commercially focused advice to boards and executive teams. Chief executive Ashley Lamb said that Ong’s experience across corporate, regulatory, risk advisory, financial services, and energy, along with his in-house leadership experience, bolsters the commercial services team, helping the firm support clients through an increasingly complex regulatory environment.
