Michael McKell has joined Actionstep as its new regional director for Australia and will provide a “key point of engagement in-market” with Australian customers, partners, and other legal community stakeholders.

He joins Actionstep from Litera, where he served as the regional director for the Asia-Pacific region.

The appointment forms part of the business’ plan for further investment and growth in Australia, “leveraging an already robust market position as a preferred legal practice management software provider for modern mid-size firms in the legal market”, it noted in a statement.

Speaking about the appointment, Actionstep global president David Hepburn said: “Mike is joining Actionstep at a fantastic time of growth. He brings with him an incredible breadth of experience from the legal technology space in APAC and the US, and will no doubt accelerate our planned investments and growth trajectory in Australia.

“We have already been impressed by his passion for building high-performing teams and ability to bring best-of-breed technology to law firms.”

Mr McKell added that he is excited to bring “truly modern, configurable technology” to an underserved segment of the legal sector.

“Australian law firms have been operating on outdated technology for far too long. I am excited to make sure more of the Australian legal market understands just how game-changing Actionstep is to the practice of law,” he proclaimed.

The appointment follows a period of “extraordinary growth” for the business, it noted, with over 40 per cent growth in the last year alone, bringing the company’s customer base to over 16,000 globally, including 6,500 customers in Australia.
