Key players: Bryan Pointon and partner David Jewkes led the team, which included senior associates Mauricio Da Rocha, Oliver Kabongo, and lawyer Ashley Xu.

Deal Significance: 777 Partners is a private investment corporation based in Miami, Florida, that has holdings in several professional soccer teams, including Sevilla of La Liga, Genoa of Serie B, Red Star FC of Paris, and Vasco da Gama of Brazil.

On 5 October, Melbourne Victory and 777 Partners announced a partnership that will allow the club and Australian soccer to flourish.

Melbourne Victory called the partnership “one of the biggest investment packages into a single sports team in Australian history”.

The strategic collaboration and investment, which includes a subscription for additional equity and longer-term convertible note capital, were all advised by the Norton Rose Fulbright team.

The head of Norton Rose Fulbright’s national corporate team Bryan Pointon said: “We are pleased to support our global client, 777 Partners, on one of the most significant private equity football investments in Australia.

“Stephen Rigby in London has advised 777 Partners on several of their sports investments, and we have been delighted to represent 777 Partners on this landmark deal for Australian football.

“Together with its investment in Bonza, this represents a significant further investment by 777 Partners in Australia.”
