5. Managing director reprimanded over barrister fee mishap
A Perth lawyer agreed to a public reprimand and a fine for his failure to get written confirmation that a barrister would waive part of his $200,000 legal bill amid a contentious fee dispute.
6. Principal solicitor faces disciplinary action over supervision denials
In an “extraordinary” and contradictory email, the principal solicitor of a Brisbane firm made a false claim about a law clerk’s supervision and refused to sign a form that was essential for her admission as a lawyer, the Queensland Legal Services Commissioner has alleged.
7. Police close investigation into ‘premeditated’ attack at Slater & Gordon
Police have closed their investigation into who was behind the scandalous email leak at Slater & Gordon, which exposed the salaries and performance ratings of hundreds of staff.
8. Qld lawyer with criminal conviction for signature failure faces strike-off
A recommendation has been made to remove the name of a Queensland lawyer from the roll after he was convicted and received a suspended jail sentence for making false declarations.
9. G+T names 3 new partners, 10 new special counsel
National law firm Gilbert + Tobin has unveiled its mid-year promotions round, with three being elevated to the partnership.
10. Strike-off recommended for lawyer who drunkenly bribed cops
A tribunal said it needed “little persuasion” to recommend the name of a Rockhampton lawyer be removed from the roll after he tried to bribe the police officers who busted him for drunk driving.
