Max Gao, Tegan Weir, and Marian Morton (all pictured) have joined Moray & Agnew in its national government team.

Gao, who was a special counsel at HWL Ebsworth, has joined as a partner and brings extensive experience handling matters governed by intricate legislative regimes and involving sensitive material. He will be based in the firm’s Sydney office.

Weir joins as a special counsel, also from HWL Ebsworth, and advises clients on issues relating to immigration and disability and regularly manages matters involving complex legislative frameworks and large-scale litigation. She will work from the firm’s Melbourne office.

And Morton, coming across from MinterEllison, has also joined as a special counsel, bringing experience in acting for various government and private clients in a variety of litigated and non-litigated actions, including personal injury claims, administrative law, redress, royal commissions, and inquiries.

Moray & Agnew now has more than 800 staff nationally, including 120 partners, across its offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Newcastle, Perth, and Cairns.

The news follows the firm’s appointment of a new workplace partner earlier this month, its promotion of special counsel to partner in October, its acquisition of Greenwoods Law (Cairns) in July, its appointment of a new national managing partner in June, its promotion of 25 in the same month, its appointment of a new corporate and commercial partner in April, its appointment of a new property partner in March, its appointment of former KPMG director as property partner in January, and its promotion of 17 in the same month.

Speaking about the appointments, Moray & Agnew Australian government national practice group leader Ben Mason said: “We look forward to the valuable contribution Max, Marian and Tegan will make as we continue to grow our government expertise in Melbourne, Sydney and nationally.”
