National law firm Thomson Geer has appointed a Sydney-based partner for its property and construction team.
Harshane Kahagalle (pictured) has joined Thomson Geer as a partner, having come across from Addisons.
He brings, Thomson Geer said in a statement, “extensive” experience advising on major urban renewal and infrastructure projects across NSW, including Barangaroo, Crown Sydney, the International Convention & Exhibition Centre, The Star, Sydney Airport, Western Sydney Airport master plans and WestConnex M4 East.
“These projects, each involving complex planning and stakeholder environments, demonstrate his strength in managing approvals for high-profile and technically challenging developments,” the firm said in a statement.
Kahagalle is dual-qualified in architecture and law.
The news follows the firm’s appointment from a tax specialist from EY as a new partner in late November, appointment of a health and safety partner from Holding Redlich earlier that month, its appointment of a partner and special counsel to its banking and finance practice at the start of October, the acquisition of a 17-person employment law team from Holding Redlich at the end of June, and the promotion of 55 lawyers to more senior roles in the same month.
Speaking about the appointment, Thomson Geer chief executive partner Adrian Tembel said: “Harshane’s appointment adds further depth to our national property and construction practice.”
“His combination of legal acumen, architectural training and experience across landmark developments will enhance our ability to deliver sophisticated, commercially focused advice to clients operating in complex planning and regulatory environments,” he said.
And Kahagalle said: “I am delighted to be joining Thomson Geer. The firm’s national platform, collaborative culture and commitment to technical excellence provide the ideal foundation to support clients in achieving successful outcomes on transformative development projects.
