National law firm Gilbert + Tobin has strengthened its mergers and acquisitions bench with the appointment of a partner to its corporate advisory group from international firm King & Wood Mallesons.
Brian Murphy (pictured) has joined Gilbert + Tobin (G + T) as a partner in its corporate advisory group, based in the firm’s Sydney office.
In a statement, the national law firm expressed that this appointment strengthens its market-leading M&A capability across key priority asset classes.
Before joining G + T, Murphy spent over three decades with international firm King & Wood Mallesons, where he progressed from solicitor and spent 24 years within the firm’s partnership ranks.
With more than 30 years of experience as a corporate adviser, Murphy brings deep expertise in advising on complex M&A and capital transactions across a range of sectors, including real estate, infrastructure, agriculture and financial services.
Throughout his lengthy career, the national law firm expressed how Murphy had been “instrumental” in advising on some of Australia’s “most ground-breaking and ‘first of their kind’ transactions”.
Danny Gilbert, co-founder and chairman of G + T, called Murphy a driving force behind landmark real estate and agriculture deals at home and abroad, adding that his appointment reinforces the firm’s leadership in complex, high-profile capital transactions.
“Brian has played a leading role in shaping landmark real estate and agriculture deals, both in Australia and for international investors,” Gilbert stated.
“His appointment reflects our commitment to leading the market in complex, strategic and globally significant capital deployment transactions.”
Speaking about his new role, Murphy expressed his excitement at joining the national law firm amid a period of change in the listed and wholesale property, infrastructure, and natural assets markets.
“I’m proud and excited to join G+T’s growing and dynamic corporate advisory and M&A team at a time of significant change across the listed and wholesale property, natural resources and real assets and infrastructure sectors,” Murphy said.
“I look forward to working alongside my colleagues at G+T to deliver sharp, practical solutions for clients navigating complex transactions.”
This news follows the national law firm’s move to strengthen its litigation team with a partner from global law firm Jones Day at the end of last year, the appointment of a partner to lead its transactional team in early August, and the addition of an energy, resources and infrastructure partner at the end of July.
