National law firm Gilbert + Tobin has bolstered its technology and digital practice by appointing a cyber risk partner from A&O Shearman.
Ross Phillipson (pictured) has joined Gilbert + Tobin (G + T) as a partner within its technology and digital practice.
In his new role, Phillipson will lead a team of specialists supporting clients in navigating cyber security, data protection, and broader digital risk issues
Before joining the national law firm, Phillipson served as a partner at global law firm Allen & Overy (A&O) Shearman, a role he held for nearly four years.
Bringing more than two decades of expertise in cyber security resilience, governance, risk management, and incident response, G + T revealed how Phillipson is widely regarded as “one of Australia’s foremost cyber risk lawyers”.
Phillipson offers technical depth, operational experience, and commercial insight across the full spectrum of cyber security, data protection, and digital risk.
His experience spans critical infrastructure, financial services, energy, mining, technology, and health sectors, where he has guided clients through security challenges with practical and commercially sound strategies.
Danny Gilbert, chairman of G + T, highlighted that with cyber risks at an all-time high, Phillipson’s extensive expertise in cyber, privacy, and critical infrastructure law will be a major asset to the firm’s clients.
“Cyber risk has never been more pressing, and Ross is one of the country’s leading advisers in helping organisations respond to those challenges,” Gilbert stated.
“His deep knowledge of cyber, privacy and critical infrastructure law, together with his global experience, will be an enormous asset to our clients.”
Speaking about his new role, Phillipson expressed his excitement at joining G + T at a time when digital threats are rapidly evolving, and cyber security has never been more critical.
“I’m delighted to be joining Gilbert + Tobin, a firm recognised for its leadership and innovation, at a time when cyber security and digital resilience are more critical than ever,” Phillipson noted.
“G + T’s market-leading platform offers an opportunity to support clients in strengthening their governance, systems and risk management.”
