National law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth has strengthened its corporate team by appointing a partner from BigLaw rival Simpson Thacher & Bartlett.
James Campisi (pictured) has joined Corrs Chambers Westgarth (Corrs) as a partner in its corporate practice, based in the firm’s Sydney office.
Campisi joins Corrs from global BigLaw firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, where he spent seven years in the firm’s London office and most recently served as a partner for more than two years.
Bringing more than 16 years of corporate law experience, Campisi adds significant private equity expertise to Corrs’ corporate team, having advised leading private equity sponsors and corporate clients on complex, high-value transactions across global markets.
His experience spans a broad range of M&A matters, including private acquisitions, public takeovers, carve-out transactions, consortium arrangements, growth investments, and strategic minority and hybrid investments, providing clients with strategic advice throughout the life cycle of sophisticated transactions.
Campisi has also developed deep sector expertise across technology, financial services, consumer, services, real estate, and infrastructure.
Speaking about the appointment, Gavin MacLaren, senior partner and CEO of Corrs, said Campisi’s extensive London market experience advising private equity clients and strategic investors on complex cross-border transactions would further enhance the firm’s capabilities in this area.
“James has significant experience in the London market advising private equity clients and strategics on their most challenging cross-border transactions,” MacLaren said.
“His appointment will further enhance the firm’s strong capabilities in this area. We are delighted to welcome James to the Corrs partnership.”
The appointment comes as the firm continues to expand its partnership ranks, following the addition of a projects partner from Ashurst in mid-May and the appointment of a competition partner in April.
