One firm to win out on the poaching front in 2010 was Tresscox, which has managed to lure several partners and their teams throughout the year.

DLA Phillips Fox's Andrew Chalet was the first to swap teams, joining Tresscox as a partner in the Melbourne office's entertainment, communications and media practice.

Chalet took with him lawyers Anita Siassios and Gabrielle Hirsch, who joined the firm's corporate and commercial team.

Church and Grace's Anthony Jefferies joined the firm's Sydney office as the new litigation and construction partner. Jefferies has over a decade of experience working at national law firms with clients including banks and financial institutions, building and construction companies and high net worth individuals.

Tresscox scored again in October, announcing the expansion of its national property team with the addition of two partners, and their respective team members, from Maddocks.

Partners Christopher Conolly and Martyn Tier (pictured), who previously worked in Maddocks' Sydney office, joined the commercial property law team, taking with them extensive experience in the field.

Conolly's practice includes development projects for government authorities, retirement villages, planning agreements, commercial sales, acquisitions and leasing and infrastructure projects such as marinas, regional airports, pipelines and wind farms.

Tier brought with him over 19 years' experience with a specialisation in commercial property, mixed-use strata developments, broad acre residential developments, acquisition and sale of rural properties, hotels and trusts.

Conolly and Tier took with them two senior associates, Nicola Arvidson and Rola Azzi, as well as a paralegal and secretary.

Tresscox managing partner Peter Smith said the swathe of appointments are all part of the firm's expansion strategy.

Other appointments this year have included a construction team from Melbourne firm Rigby Cooke Lawyers, former Herbert Geer partner Leo Hopsick, who joined the infrastructure, energy and resources team, and Alex Moriarty, formerly of Tucker & Cowen, who joined the firm's Brisbane commercial, construction and energy and resources teams.
