The awards program sets the benchmark for excellence in the corporate counsel sector and provides national recognition for top-performing in-house legal professionals across Australia.

The awards shine a light on the achievements of in-house counsel teams and individuals who are influencing and propelling the legal industry forward.

They are open to all eligible professionals and businesses in the legal industry operating across Australia.

Lawyers Weekly is urging general and legal counsel, legal operations professionals, chief legal officers, company secretaries, and law departments to submit an entry or nominate a worthy colleague by Friday, 23 February 2024.

There are 20 individual and 15 group categories for applicants to choose from this year, and they cover a broad spectrum of the law.

Individual categories are open to agribusiness lawyers, consultancy lawyers, insurance lawyers, not-for-profit lawyers, and transport and logistics lawyers, among others.

Alongside this, individuals can submit into the Wellness Initiative of the Year category if they have demonstrated a commitment to fostering wellness in their workforce through at least one significant wellness initiative.

Legal teams in construction and real estate, defence, security and/or cyber security, financial services, professional services, and sports and entertainment sectors are also encouraged to submit into the awards for 2024.

At the end of the evening, the highest-scoring winner from the individual award categories will walk away with the prestigious Corporate Counsel Excellence Award.

Winning a Corporate Counsel award could distinguish individuals and businesses from their competitors and strengthen their position in the legal profession.

The award winners are determined by a highly respected panel of judges, providing peer-reviewed recognition of the successes and capabilities of individuals and groups in the legal profession.

Lawyers Weekly will announce the finalists on Tuesday, 19 March 2024.

The winners will be announced at the gala black-tie awards ceremony on Thursday, 2 May 2024, at The Star in Sydney. Click here to buy tickets.

The ceremony is an opportunity for legal professionals to network with their colleagues and peers, as well as leaders in their industry.

Commenting on the awards program, Lawyers Weekly editor Jerome Doraisamy said that hosting the annual awards program for Australia’s in-house professionals is a real privilege.

“The role of in-house professional is one that is not only ever-expanding, but ever-challenging. Acknowledging and celebrating the outstanding work being undertaken by those in corporate legal is as meaningful as it is important,” he proclaimed.
