Sydney-based law firm Swaab has appointed planning and environment lawyer and former Royal Australian Navy member Suzy Whitty as a special counsel in its property, planning, and projects team.
The firm said Whitty brings “a wealth of planning and environment expertise and experience” and that her appointment furthers its commitment to delivering legal services and commercial outcomes for clients.
The appointment was effective 19 October 2026.
Swaab managing partner Mary Digiglio said: “With Suzy’s experience as both a planning and environment lawyer and an Australian Navy veteran, she brings a valuable and bespoke skill set and wealth of experience that is an ideal fit for Swaab.
“Her appointment strengthens our ability to support sophisticated clients involved in complex, large-scale developments, where her specialist expertise, commercial insight and discipline are critical for success.
“Suzy’s addition is a meaningful enhancement to our capacity to deliver exceptional value, outstanding service and the Generosity of Spirit that sits at the heart of the Swaab Brand.”
The news follows the firm’s promotion of six lawyers to more senior roles in August.
Whitty has more than 10 years of experience as a practising lawyer, following a stint in the Royal Australian Navy, the firm said.
Her practice has centred on representing clients in the Land and Environment Court of NSW, the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal, the firm said, in matters relating to development disputes, environmental proceedings and compulsory acquisition.
She has acted for both acquiring authorities and landowners in compulsory acquisition matters, Swaab noted, including in the largest land acquisition case in NSW history, which involved a compensation claim exceeding $500 million.
