Clyde & Co has added a new partner in Brisbane, who was formerly a special counsel at Kennedys and brings more than 19 years of experience to the firm, having worked across London and Australia.

New partner Janine Clark joins the firm’s casualty practice, with a particular focus on personal injury claims, third-party property damage, including contribution and recovery claims, and coverage disputes.

She previously spent over a decade practising in London, where she gained experience working with large corporations, London syndicates, and motor and public liability insurers with particular emphasis on large loss and catastrophic injury.

“I am delighted to join a leading global insurance firm and contribute to the team’s future successes assisting clients with their high-profile, complex matters,” Clark said.

This news follows the appointment of seven special counsel earlier this month, as well as the addition of award-winning boutique principal Simone Herbert-Lowe as a partner in the firm’s cyber practice last month and the appointment of Jenny Thornton as the managing partner in its Perth office last August.

Clyde & Co’s casualty claims defence practice acts for insurers and their policyholders across the full spectrum of claims, including catastrophic injury, motor, fraud, legacy and disease, employers’ liability, public liability, credit hire, property liability, and abuse and neglect – and according to insurance partner Luke O’Kane, Clark’s appointment comes after significant growth in the Australian market.

“We have seen significant growth in the casualty space over the past two years, and clients continue to rely on us for their most complex work. Bringing Janine into the team enables us to further grow the practice while fully servicing our existing, longstanding client base,” he said.

Australia head of insurance Gareth Horne added that the firm has “a clear vision to further enhance our offering across the core lines of insurance business in Australia”.

“Janine has a deep connection with both the domestic and London markets, and her introduction, in the Brisbane office, will add further depth and technical excellence to our casualty practice,” he said.

Australia managing partner Rebecca Kelly said: “It is an exciting time to welcome Janine to the partnership. We continue to invest in the insurance sector where we anticipate growing client demand, and to bolster our teams with high-performing lateral talent.”
