National law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth has strengthened its mergers and acquisitions team by appointing a partner from rival firm Gilbert + Tobin.
Corrs Chambers Westgarth (Corrs) has appointed Ben Macdonald, a seasoned corporate and mergers and acquisitions lawyer with over two decades of experience, into its partnership ranks.
Macdonald joins Corrs from rival national firm Gilbert + Tobin, where he has been a partner since 2012, advising on complex domestic and cross-border transactions.
His appointment marks the second partner Corrs has recruited from Gilbert + Tobin in just one week, following the earlier hire of executive partner Tim Gordon, who also joined the firm’s mergers and acquisitions team.
Before joining Gilbert + Tobin, Macdonald held roles including vice president at Deutsche Bank, senior manager at Macquarie Capital Advisers, and senior associate at Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer.
In a statement, the national law firm highlighted that Macdonald specialises in public and private M&A, joint ventures, capital raisings, corporate restructurings, and corporate governance, advising clients ranging from ASX-listed companies and large corporates to private equity groups and sovereign wealth funds.
Speaking on his appointment, Gavin MacLaren, senior partner and CEO at Corrs, said Macdonald’s extensive experience in the mergers and acquisitions market will make him a valuable asset as the firm continues to expand its M&A team in Melbourne.
“Ben has significant experience advising on M&A transactions over the past two decades. He has a particular focus on cross-border M&A, including in the industrials, energy and infrastructure sectors,” MacLaren said.
“Ben is well regarded for his technical expertise, commerciality and strong client service. He will be a strong addition to our corporate advisory offering in Melbourne, and we are delighted to welcome him to the Corrs partnership.”
This news follows the firm’s naming 12 new partners across four of its national offices at the start of June.
