Russell Krupp and Sam Lawson (both pictured) have joined BigLaw firm Moray & Agnew, strengthening its corporate and commercial offering in Victoria.

Krupp brings more than two decades of experience across both public and private sectors, the firm said, noting he is one of only six accredited specialists in tax law in Victoria, as well as being a chartered accountant and chartered tax adviser.

Lawson’s practice focuses on M&A, investments and fundraising, joint ventures, technology contracting, corporate governance and broader business advisory matters, and he brings extensive mid-market transactional work experience, guiding founders, investors, and business leaders through complex and strategic legal challenges.

The news follows the firm’s promotion of 13 lawyers, including four to partner, back in December, its appointment of a partner and two special counsel from BigLaw rivals in late November, its appointment of a new workplace partner earlier that month, and its promotion of special counsel to partner in October.

Speaking about the hires, Moray & Agnew Melbourne managing partner Bill Papastergiadis said: “These appointments reflect Moray & Agnew’s continued commitment to invest in high-calibre partners who bring both expertise and practical insight. Russell and Sam further enhance our ability to support clients across the full life cycle of their businesses, and we are excited that they are both joining us.”

The firm’s national managing partner, Ian Denham, said: “Russell and Sam are outstanding additions. Their combined technical depth, commercial judgement and client-focused approach add immediate value for our clients and teams, further solidifying our place in the commercial legal market.”

Krupp said: “Joining the Moray & Agnew partnership presents an exciting opportunity to integrate my tax and commercial practice within a firm known for its technical excellence and national reach. From the outset, I have been struck by how well managed the firm is and by the sophistication of its systems, which clearly support both its people and its clients.

“I look forward to working alongside the Melbourne team to help our clients navigate the increasingly complex intersection of commercial strategy and tax law, ensuring they achieve both their immediate business goals and long-term succession objectives.”

And Lawson said: “I am really excited to be joining Moray & Agnew. The culture of the firm was a key drawcard for me. There is a real depth to all the teams, full of people who are easy to deal with and great at what they do. I know it will be a great place to work and an excellent fit for my clients and the transactions I work on.”
