Global provider Consilio has moved to strengthen its position as the “world’s largest legal data AI technology provider” by acquiring industrial legal AI research lab TrueLaw.
Consilio, a global e-discovery, document review, flexible legal talent, and legal advisory and transformation consulting services provider, has completed its acquisition of New York City-based legal AI research lab TrueLaw, which will significantly expand its AI capabilities and reinforce its position as the world’s largest AI legal data technology provider.
The news follows Consilio’s launch of legal data management platform Aurora in March and its unveiling of document review solution Guided AI Review in September.
The combination, Consilio proclaimed in a statement, will create an “unparalleled” AI ecosystem spanning the entire legal data life cycle, with its existing AI and agentic capabilities to be enhanced by TrueLaw’s specialised narrative AI technology.
The acquisition will also strengthen Consilio’s technology position in key areas, including enhanced AI investigation capabilities, advanced language model technology, and comprehensive narrative generation.
The acquisition, Consilio chief executive Andy Macdonald (pictured) said, represents a “significant strategic investment” in expanding the provider’s technology leadership “and demonstrates our unwavering commitment to delivering the most advanced AI solutions in the legal industry”.
“TrueLaw’s innovative approach to legal AI, particularly their expertise in narrative generation and expert-tuned language models, perfectly complements our existing AI suite and Aurora platform. Together, we’re not just advancing legal technology – we’re building the foundational AI, data and workflow technologies and infrastructure that transform how legal professionals extract insights from data and deliver value to their clients,” he said.
TrueLaw chief executive and co-founder Arunim Samat said: “We’re thrilled to join Consilio, a company with an unmatched proven track record of delivering impactful AI solutions to global law firms and corporations.
“Consilio’s scale, expertise, and commitment to responsible AI innovation create the perfect environment for our technology to reach its full potential. This partnership allows us to accelerate the development of our Expert Legal Model and narrative AI capabilities while leveraging Consilio’s extensive client relationships and deep understanding of legal workflows.”
Macdonald said: “This acquisition exemplifies our strategy of making significant technology investments to maintain our leadership position.
“We’re not just keeping pace with AI innovation – we’re driving it forward through strategic acquisitions, internal R&D, and deep partnerships with the most innovative companies in legal AI.”
